Thanks to all of those who participated, to race chairman John Thomas, and to everyone else from the WYC who helped make it a great event.
2006 should prove to be a very exciting year for the Wawasee Yacht Club and the E-Scow fleet. For the first time, the Wawasee Yacht Club will be holding Junior Racing. This is a great opportunity to build that love of racing that we all have in our junior sailors. Please support this program in any way that you can.
We are also going to continue our very popular evening sailing program this year. We are going to try a combination of two Thursday evening racing dates and two Friday evening racing dates. With the introduction of daylight savings time in Indiana this summer, we should have plenty of evening sunlight for an enjoyable event. This year we've invited any other sailors to join us, regardless of the boat they sail. The dates are on the club calendar. After racing join us at the yacht club for a BYO cookout.
This year we are also going to try to hold three races on Sundays when the weather is particularly good for sailing. I'll be surveying the boats via VHF radio to see how many boats favor an additional race, so plan to bring a radio and tune in after the second race if you want to have a say in this.
We are going to change our scoring this year to allow some throw outs if a boat competes in a certain number of races. This will hopefully encourage boats to participate when they don't have their full regular crews. It will also give boats a better chance to compete after a particularly poor performance.
Finally, we are going to reinstitute the monthly series this year. The scoring for the monthly series will be the same as for the season scoring but there will be no excused absences and no throw outs. This should improve the opportunity for more boats to receive awards. The June and July monthly awards will be given out at the club parties immediately following the end of those months. The August monthly awards will be given out at the season end party. The June monthly series will include Memorial Day weekend races and the August series will include Labor Day weekend races.
I hope the winds are a bit stronger than they were last summer. Let's all get out on the race course and have a great time this summer.
